According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), nonsurgical procedures are consistently increasing in popularity, with Botox leading the way as the number one procedure with over 3 million treatments performed in 2012 alone.
More and more people are realizing that they can improve their image and feel good about the way they look through minimally invasive procedures that offer minimal to no downtime. Some nonsurgical procedures may be a good alternative for a surgical, and long-lasting solution. For example, for some, Botox is a good nonsurgical alternative to a brow lift procedure. Also, dermal fillers using hyaluronic acid can be injected in areas of the face to add contour as opposed to a fat transfer procedure which uses fat from another area of your body (abdomen, hips, thighs) and transfers it to facial areas for long term fullness. When it came to plastic surgery, the ASPS reported that breast augmentation was the number one surgical procedure performed in 2012, with over 330,000 procedures in the US. Liposuction followed in popularity with over 313,000 procedures performed in 2012.
Facial procedures, like eyelid surgery, increased by 4% from 2011-2012, previously down by 6% in 2010. Abdominoplasty, also known as Tummy Tuck, was the third most popular surgical procedure performed in 2012. Finally, to round out the top five most popular surgical procedures, rhinoplasty ranked number five and maintained consistently popular throughout the years.
