Tumescent liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery, its a procedure that was devised in order to reduce blood loss and pain of liposuction surgery. It involves injection of tumescent fluid into the target areas before actual suction of fat. Tumescent fluid is a mixture of an intravenous salt solution, lidocaine (a local anesthetic), and epinephrine (a drug that contracts blood vessels). The liquid helps to minimize blood loss, reduce bruising, and obviate the need for additional anesthetic. This solution swells the fat pockets and allows the liposuction cannula to move easily through tissue for effective fat removal. Tumescent liposuction is ideal for body areas that require precise fat removal such as the face, calves, and ankles. In many cases, tumescent liposuction is also the preferred choice for removing large areas of fat at once.
Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (UAL)
This particular liposuction technique represents a more recently developed treatment modality. In its most simple form, UAL uses sound waves to liquefy the fat deposits after injection of tumescent fluid. The fat is then removed with the traditional liposuction technique. By using sound waves to break-up the fat deposits, UAL minimizes trauma and results in less bruising and blood loss. Furthermore, UAL has been shown to improve the ease and effectiveness of liposuction in especially fibrous areas of the body such as the upper back or the enlarged male breast. It is also commonly used in secondary procedures when enhanced precision is needed. In general, UAL takes longer to perform than traditional liposuction. Laser liposuction, also known as smart lipo, is one of the latest fat removing procedures to hit the market. It uses a laser beam to dissolve fatty tissue. The laser liquefies the fat, which are then gradually removed by the white blood cells and the liver. It’s different from other liposuction procedures since it does not make incisions to suction the liquefied fat out. However, it’s also a treatment that has a rather hit-and-miss track record when it comes to overall effectiveness. Also, it takes longer to perform and thus is recommended for smaller areas. Water Jet Liposuction
Water-jet or body-jet liposuction is a product of recent liposuction advances. In 2007, a group of German Plastic surgeons launched this new technique of removing fat tissues via water jet spray as an alternative to the current methods available. To learn more visit water jet liposuction.
