Mini Tummy Tuck– Also known as partial abdominoplasty, is another option available to patients who have limited abdominal skin laxity and desire to smooth out their lower abdominal area. This body contouring procedure is designed for those patients whose needs are not extensive enough for the standard full abdominoplasty, but could benefit from some abdominal skin removal. The mini abdominoplasty procedure is often customized according to the need of the patient
The ideal candidates for a mini abdominoplasty are those who have a mild degree of lower abdominal skin laxity with minimal abdominal muscle separation. In these patients, the upper abdominal region, from belly button above, has minimal skin laxity. Most of the skin laxity is below the belly button and is limited to the lower abdomen.
This procedure may be performed under general or local anesthesia in about two hours or less, depending on the severity of the case. The incision of a mini abdominoplasty is made above the pubic area. This allows for the surgeon to excise some of the excess skin, as well as remove fat. Some muscle repair may be done to complete the abdominoplasty, but if it requires complete muscle repair, then a full abdominoplasty is recommended. Liposuction is used to remove any additional fat lying above the muscle and to sculpt the abdominal area. Unlike the a standard abdominoplasty, the belly button is not affected and will not need repositioning.
The mini tummy tuck surgery typically requires less recovery than the full tummy tuck. Mini tummy tucks carry a lower risk of potential complications compared to the more extensive abdominoplasty procedures. Patients can often return to normal activity within a week after surgery.
