The size, proportion and overall shape of your nose are all things that can be modified with nose surgery. This facial procedure is also called rhinoplasty. You may want to consider nose surgery if you are self-conscious or otherwise unhappy with the way your nose looks. The results of this procedure can be so flattering to the appearance of your face that you may finally feel 100% you – the version of yourself that your nose was preventing you from seeing.
The only way to know for sure if you are a candidate, and to find out how much it will cost and how much time you’ll need to take off from work, is to arrange a consultation with experienced and board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Siamak Agha.
Dr. Agha has been performing rhinoplasty for years and knows how to adapt the procedure to the individual. Nasal shape is very unique and has a significant influence on the overall appearance of your face. Dr. Agha first listens carefully to how you want your nose to look and how you want your face to look. From there, he develops a plan to produce your desired results.
Dr. Agha takes your overall facial shape, ethnicity, facial features and proportions into account. He’ll make sure the results look natural, attractive and 100% flattering.
At Dr. Agha’s practice, rhinoplasty is most often performed as an outpatient procedure, which means you will be able to return home shortly after surgery. Occasionally an overnight stay at the hospital may be recommended, but it’s less common. In either case, someone will need to drive you home and stay with you for at least 24 hours after surgery. The procedure itself usually takes 2-3 hours, although your surgery could be longer or shorter depending on the circumstances.
You’ll need to wear light dressings over the incisions for several days. Most people return to work after 5-10 days, which is when the majority of bruising and swelling goes down. Stitches will be removed during this time as well.
Scars continue to flatten and get lighter in color. Swelling will continue to dissipate over the coming weeks. Your results are long-lasting: although aging may affect the appearance of your nose, the re-shaping achieved with rhinoplasty remains.
In a closed rhinoplasty, incisions are made entirely within the nostrils. While many patients are excited about the fact the resulting scars are hidden inside the nose, there are some limitations to the closed technique. It gives Dr. Agha limited access to the structures of the nose, particularly the nose tip, so not all re-shaping can be accomplished with the closed technique.
In the open rhinoplasty method, a small incision is made horizontally across the strip of skin between your nostrils. Incisions are also made inside the nose. The small external incision is extremely well-hidden on the underside of the nose, so most people have no problem with the appearance of the scar after surgery.
Dr. Agha will let you know which incisions are necessary in order to achieve the re-shaping you and he discuss. It depends on how the underlying skeletal structure of the nose needs to be changed. We’ll make sure all of your questions about incisions – and all aspects of the procedure – are answered.
Nose re-shaping addresses a wide array of nasal characteristics, including:
Dr. Agha cares deeply about his patients’ satisfaction with their surgical outcomes. He approaches your nasal re-shaping by first and foremost listening to your concerns. You’ll be able to point out the specific areas of your nose you’d like to change, and you and Dr. Agha will agree to the best way to create a nose you’ll be pleased with.
